How to review Claude Code's changes, line by line

Claude Code can change many files in one answer, and in a terminal you see the chat, not the project. Here is how to keep up with what it did: first with Claude Code alone, then in Codepit.

With Claude Code alone

  • Let it ask. In Manual mode Claude Code asks before every edit and shows you the change. It is the closest review there is, and it stops the work each time.
  • Review with git. Commit before you start. git diff then shows what Claude changed, and git restore . undoes the changes to files git already knows. New files stay until you delete them.
  • Rewind. /rewind, or Esc twice on an empty prompt, takes the code and the chat back to an earlier message. It tracks Claude's file edits, so a file that only a shell command changed stays as it is.

All three work. What they do not give you is each change in its place in the file, with the project around it, while Claude is still working.

In Codepit

Codepit with a sample game project, Ember Keep: the file tree, combo.ts open in the editor with five changes from Claude marked in green and red, each with Keep and Undo, and the chat on the right.
  • Keep or undo each change. Every edit shows up in the editor in green and red, with Keep and Undo on it, while Claude goes on working. Ctrl Shift R (⌘ Shift R on a Mac) opens the same changes as a list. If you prefer, switch review off and let git be the review.
  • Riskiest first. Review groups the changes under Claude's own words about why: database, sign-in and payments on top, renames last. Files the plan never named get a badge.
  • Removed code, caught. When Claude deletes a function or class that now exists nowhere else, a card says so, and one click puts it back. Code it only moved or renamed does not count.
  • Back to any moment. Slide back to the project before or after any Claude turn, see what changed since, and bring it back with one click.
  • Ask about one line. Select lines in the editor and press Ctrl L: they go to the chat with their file and line numbers, from as many files as you like.
